The annual ceremony, held at the Walmart AMP in Rogers, Arkansas, features a formal procession, conferring of degrees, speeches, and recognition of academic excellence, marking the culmination of students’ hard work and dedication.

Graduates participating in the ceremony are required to wear traditional graduation cap and gown attire. The classic black graduation gown and mortarboard-style graduation cap are the foundation of student regalia, paired with a tassel that hangs on the cap and is ceremonially moved from right to left upon conferral of the degree. Caps may be decorated within guidelines that prohibit profanity and offensive imagery.

NWACC encourages students to order their cap, gown, and tassels sets via GraduationPortal.com by the established deadline, with additional options available through the NWACC Bookstore. Honor cords and specialized regalia must be earned or affiliated with qualifying honor societies.

The honor cords, stoles, and medals worn with academic regalia signify specific student achievements and affiliations. Graduates with a GPA of 3.5 or higher may wear honor cords to recognize academic distinction. Gold cords distinguish honor graduates, while additional colored cords and stoles identify membership in honor societies such as Gamma Beta Phi (ebony & gold stole), Phi Theta Kappa (gold stoles and blue & gold cords), Sigma Kappa Delta (green & gold cords), and others. First generation students wear green & white cords, military members wear red, white & blue cords, and international students may wear sashes featuring their national flags. Distinctive medals represent roles like Student Ambassadors and LIFE mentors.

This comprehensive approach to academic regalia enhances the visual tradition of commencement, allowing graduates to showcase achievements while honoring institutional heritage through meaningful cap, gown, tassel, and cord combinations.
